Let’s talk about J.T. Hiskey for a second. Because whether people want to admit it or not, dude has quietly been building one of the most interesting independent runs in underground rap right now. From touring across the country to consistently dropping music that actually sounds different from everybody else in the scene, it feels like every few months there’s another reason his name starts circulating again. And the wild part? It still feels like he’s only getting started.

What stands out most about Hiskey is how unpredictable his catalog is. One minute he’s making melodic records, the next he’s creating something gritty and aggressive like “100 Grand,” the Gregory Goose-produced track that started catching serious attention online after clips of him performing it live on the Mike Sherm tour began spreading across TikTok. Now the song is picking up momentum again after footage from his recent opening set for Blueface started making rounds online too. The official music video has also continued helping the song gain traction.

But this isn’t some overnight thing. If you’ve been paying attention, J.T. Hiskey has been grinding for years. He’s performed everywhere from the Whisky a Go Go to spring break events in South Padre Island with Steve Aoki, toured with artists like Mike Sherm and D Savage, and built a loyal fanbase without relying on gimmicks. That’s probably why so many people in the underground scene respect him. His career feels organic. Every release feels like it comes from somebody who genuinely enjoys creating instead of chasing whatever trend is hot that month.

Another thing that separates him from a lot of artists coming up right now is consistency. A lot of rappers go viral once and disappear. Hiskey keeps finding ways to stay in conversations, whether it’s through new visuals, collaborations, performances, or simply evolving his sound. Even his older music continues resurfacing online. That says a lot about the replay value of what he’s making.

And honestly, it feels like the industry is slowly catching up to what longtime supporters already knew. There’s momentum around his name right now that doesn’t feel forced. It feels earned. Independent artists rarely manage to build a brand this recognizable while still sounding authentic, but J.T. Hiskey somehow keeps doing both at the same time.

At this point, calling him “up next” almost feels outdated. The truth is, he’s already moving like somebody who belongs in the next wave of artists to really break through. And if the current trajectory continues, there might not be much stopping him.
